Chef Carolyn Hoyte

Bringing the Flavours of Guyana to Tables Across America

For many people in the Guyanese diaspora, food is more than nourishment. It is memory. It is family gathered around the table. It is Christmas mornings with pepperpot and homemade bread, Sunday lunches filled with laughter, and recipes lovingly passed from one generation to the next.

For Chef Carolyn Hoyte, preserving those memories has become both a calling and a career.

As the founder and executive chef of Divine Decadent Catering in Metro Atlanta, Chef Hoyte has spent years introducing clients to exceptional cuisine while proudly carrying the flavours and traditions of her Guyanese heritage into every kitchen she enters. Through elegant catering, private chef services, culinary education, and now her cookbook, she has become an ambassador for Guyanese food far beyond its borders.

A Passion Born in Guyana

Born and raised in Guyana, Carolyn Hoyte grew up in a family where food was central to everyday life. Meals were never simply about eating. They were about celebrating milestones, strengthening family bonds, and bringing people together.

Living in one of the world’s most culturally diverse nations shaped the way she viewed food. Guyana’s Indigenous, African, East Indian, Chinese, Portuguese, and European influences created a culinary landscape unlike anywhere else in the Caribbean.

Those early experiences sparked a curiosity that would eventually define her career.

Rather than limiting herself to one cuisine, she developed a passion for understanding how different cultures expressed themselves through food. That appreciation for diversity remains at the heart of everything she creates today.

From Student to Professional Chef

Determined to pursue cooking professionally, Hoyte enrolled at the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude and ranked among the top ten students in her class.

Her culinary education gave her the technical foundation to complement the traditions she had learned growing up in Guyana.

She also earned a bachelor’s degree in Government and Politics from St. John’s University, demonstrating a commitment to education that extends beyond the kitchen.

After graduation, she refined her skills through professional culinary experiences, mastering classical techniques while developing a cooking style that blended elegance with the comforting flavours of home.

Building Divine Decadent Catering

Armed with professional training and a clear vision, Carolyn launched Divine Decadent Catering.

What began as a catering company has grown into one of Metro Atlanta’s respected culinary businesses, offering catering for weddings, corporate functions, private celebrations, intimate dinners, and personal chef services.

The name itself reflects her philosophy.

Every event deserves food that is both beautiful and memorable.

Every menu is thoughtfully curated to suit the client while maintaining the highest standards of quality, presentation, and flavour.

Whether preparing an elegant plated dinner, a lavish buffet, or an intimate private dining experience, Chef Hoyte approaches each event with the same attention to detail that has become her signature.

A Global Palate Rooted in Guyana

Although Divine Decadent Catering serves a wide variety of international cuisine, Guyana remains at the centre of Chef Hoyte’s culinary identity.

She often describes Guyana as a true melting pot of cultures—a country where recipes from six different ethnic traditions have blended over generations to create something entirely unique.

That philosophy inspired her cookbook, The Meltin’ Pot, which features more than fifty recipes representing cuisines from around the world while celebrating Guyanese favourites alongside international classics.

Among the recipes closest to her heart is pepperpot, Guyana’s national dish.

For Chef Hoyte, pepperpot represents much more than a recipe.

It represents family, tradition, and the memories of Christmas mornings shared with loved ones back home.

Her cookbook encourages readers to embrace culinary diversity while appreciating the heritage that shaped their own tables.

Excellence Beyond the Plate

One of the defining characteristics of Divine Decadent Catering is its commitment to presentation.

Each dish is carefully plated to create an experience that begins before the first bite.

Fresh ingredients, elegant styling, and meticulous attention to detail transform every event into something memorable.

That philosophy mirrors Chef Hoyte’s belief that exceptional food should satisfy every sense—not only taste but sight, aroma, and atmosphere.

It is an approach that has earned the company a loyal clientele throughout Metro Atlanta.

Representing Guyana with Pride

For members of the Guyanese diaspora, chefs like Carolyn Hoyte play an important role in preserving cultural identity.

Every Guyanese dish she prepares introduces someone new to the country’s remarkable culinary heritage.

Every catered event becomes an opportunity to tell Guyana’s story through flavour.

Whether serving traditional pepperpot, curry, cook-up rice, or contemporary international cuisine inspired by her upbringing, she proudly carries Guyana with her.

That commitment extends beyond the kitchen.

Through public appearances, cooking demonstrations, and educational content, Chef Hoyte continues to inspire aspiring chefs while encouraging people to explore the rich diversity of Caribbean cuisine.

An Inspiration for Future Generations

Chef Carolyn Hoyte’s journey demonstrates that success is built through education, perseverance, creativity, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

From a childhood in Guyana to graduating with honours from one of the world’s most respected culinary schools, and from launching her own catering company to publishing her own cookbook, she has continually invested in her craft while remaining connected to her roots.

For young Guyanese aspiring to careers in the culinary arts, her story serves as a reminder that local traditions can have global appeal.
